Florence Nightingale

Suggested age group for the activities:

Florence Nightingale was a British social reformer, statistician, and the founder of modern nursing. She came to prominence during the Crimean War, where she organized care for wounded soldiers. She was a pioneer in the visual presentation of information and statistical graphics, using innovative charts (the polar area diagram or ‘coxcomb’) to demonstrate that most soldiers died from preventable diseases rather than battle wounds.
