Leonhard Euler was a Swiss mathematician who worked in almost every area of science, from mathematics and physics to astronomy and mechanics. He is considered one of the greatest and most productive mathematicians in history, having written hundreds of papers and books during his lifetime. He introduced much of the mathematical notation we still use today, including the concept of a function and the symbol e. Remarkably, he kept producing important work even after becoming almost completely blind later in life.
